Captain
Francis Nevill, an engineer in Derry during the siege, recorded
the new names given to the bulwarks at that time by the thousands
of outsiders who had sought refuge in the city. Ignorant of their
existing names, they called the bulwarks whatever they considered
most appropriate under the circumstances.
