Bishop's Gate

During the period 1789-90, Bishop's Gate was completely levelled and a Triumphal Arch (with side passages for pedestrians) was erected in honour of King William III. The sculpted head on the outside is dated 1689 and represents the River Foyle. The one on the inside dated 1690 represents the River Boyne.

Bishop's Gate circa 1940.
