Welcome
to Derrys Walls
This
site is dedicated to the walls that surround the ancient and historic city
of Derry built in the early 17th century.
Derry’s
Walls, the most visible of the city’s structures, dominate its
skyline and are a constant reminder of a rich but divisive history.
Much of the original structure has stood for almost four centuries
and witnessed events where military encounters were won and lost but
where psychological victories are still being sought. Among the triumphs
was the successful with-standing of three sieges, the consequences
of which reverberate down the decades to the present day.
This
site contains a wealth of images including maps, illustrations and
modern photographs together with explanatory text.
